'Kedewasaan Bernegara' theme for 25th National Day
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Wednesday, September 17, 2008
THE executive committee for next year's National Day Silver Jubilee celebrations has agreed with the theme of "Kedewasaan Bernegara" to celebrate the country's coming of age and achievements.
The executive committee held its second meeting at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday, which also discussed the theme's many aspects and how it would further elaborate the nation's aspirations.
The aim of the theme for next year's celebration intends to highlight the age of a nation-state that has reached a quarter of a century which is marked by the progress and development of the country.
The theme "Kedewasaan Bernegara" has two schools of thought in the process of development within the nation-state.
One is a recollection of the progress made over the span of 25 years since its independence, while another is the vision of 25 years ahead into the future based on the plans that the country will be able to develop.
Hosting the meeting yesterday was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Ahmad Hj Jumat, as chairman of the executive committee.
Present during the meeting were committee members for the annual celebrations such as representatives and directors from the Royal Brunei Police Force, the private sector and non-profit organisations. The meeting also discussed the celebrations' performance format, budget and delegation of work among the committee along with a recap of the previous meeting.
Other activities discussed include the customary giant flag raising ceremony in the capital, thanksgiving ceremony at the Sultan Hj Omar Hj Saifuddien mosque and a logo competition open to Bruneians.
According to minutes of the last meeting also discussed yesterday, the plans for next year's celebrations will promise a much more grandeur festival. (SRH1) The Brunei Times
